The Nelson FilterSorb Scale Prevention System is not a water softener.  It does not use salt or chemicals of any kind.  It does not add or remove anything from the water.  A hardness test will read the same before and after a scale prevention system

The water flowing around the FilterSorb media in the tank changes the positively charged calcium and other minerals to negatively charged minerals.  That make the minerals unable to stick together or to anything else.  The minerals stay suspended in the water allowing most of them to travel down the drain.  After the water evaporates the minerals are easily wiped up.  Because the minerals are now in a negative state they will help to de-scale the inside of your existing piping system.

To extend the life of the FilterSorb media it is highly recommended that a carbon filter be installed before the FilterSorb tank.  The order comes with a 4.5" wall mounted canister and two carbon filters for removal of chlorine form the water.
